Dr. Tania Bishola Tshitenge is an associate professor at the University of Kinshasa and director of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, which applies the "One Health" approach to address major public health challenges. Her research focuses on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, pathogen genomics, and human-animal-environment interactions. She has worked on a wide range of pathogens of public health importance, including emerging and re-emerging viruses (Ebola, Mpox), bacterial pathogens such as Escherichia coli and Vibrio cholerae, and neglected tropical diseases (trypanosomiasis).
Her work integrates molecular biology, genomics, epidemiology, and digital health approaches to improve disease surveillance, diagnosis, and preparedness. She is particularly interested in leveraging innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence, genomics, and data-driven tools, to strengthen health systems and support evidence-based decision-making in Africa.
Since January 2023, she has been teaching molecular biology and genetic engineering at the University of Kinshasa and supervising undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects, thus contributing to the training of the next generation of scientists and innovators in Central Africa.
Dr. Bishola is also co-founder and president of the Academy of Young Scientists of the DRC ( ASJ-RDC ), a dynamic platform dedicated to promoting science, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration among young researchers through science outreach, capacity building and exchange programs.
